Work experience with care experience

2 min read

This summer we partnered with the Drive Forward Foundation to offer a week of work experience to a talented young woman called Monica. The Foundation helps to empower and provide opportunities to care experienced young people to help them realise their full potential and develop as individuals. They provide one-to-one support, mentoring, career opportunities and skills training.

At Mind Of My Own, we believe that all young people regardless of background deserve and have the right to achieve to their full potential and we were delighted to have Monica join us for a week. Monica has previously worked for the civil service and spends her free time building apps and attending workshops to strengthen her coding skills. With her amazing background, we wanted to show her different aspects of our company, so she could see the many different aspects of how a tech company is operated and run.

A big part of account management is travelling to meet our customers throughout the UK, attending meetings and providing personal support on any issues the organisation may be experiencing. After meeting the team Monica’s week began with a customer meeting in Thurrock, quickly followed by the long journey up to Scotland for a UX design workshop with young people in Midlothian. All our app features are co-produced and co-designed with young people so we can ensure they are useful and relevant to the end users. Monica helped to run the session and learned how to plan a UX design workshop. She told us this was her favourite part of the week!

Monica finished off the week by attending a road mapping day and recording a podcast. Our road mapping day is how we set the agenda for future developments and where we hope to grow and expand in the upcoming year. We learned a lot from Monica’s feedback on our apps. You can listen to the podcast here.
