CYP Now award
We are delighted to announce that Mind Of My Own is a finalist in the safeguarding category for the CYP Now awards 2020. These prestigious awards, which showcase the best of social care innovation and dedication, are highly contested and we are honoured to have made it this far.
Included And Safe
Back in September we posted a blog about our 2020 project, Included And Safe. Two new features, the Recite Me toolbar and the Safety Link, combined to make up Included and Safe, which also turned out to be a lifeline during the pandemic lockdowns.
This is the project we entered into the CYP Now awards 2020 and for which we are now proudly shortlisted.
Jake’s story
Jake is 10 and lives with his mother and stepfather. He has autism and additional needs that mean he struggles with reading some words. Just at the beginning of lockdown people were worried about Jake and his Early Help worker signed him up to a One account. He was able to access the One app and used the text-to-speech function on the Recite Me button to help him navigate around it. Two weeks into lockdown Jake sent a statement to his worker which said he felt sad and unsafe. The service picked up information the same day as his name appeared in the Safety Link and the duty worker was able to go and see him in his garden. Jake finds face to face conversations very hard but he had written in his statement that his stepdad was getting drunk and hitting him and his mum all the time. The worker had a copy of his statement with her and was able to reassure him everything would be ok. Jake’s case was moved into child protection that day and his stepdad had to move out of the family home.
When we hear stories like Jake’s we know we made a great investment into Included And Safe.
Every child is able to have a say
We believe that every child is able to have a say and we build apps to make sure they all have a chance to have their voices heard. This helps children and young people to be kept safe and well.
Wish us luck for the awards event on 4 March 2021!
